A free crime alert application: CITIZEN. https://CITIZEN.COM
There is a premium paid version but it is not essential to having the crime alert.
How does Citizen work?
Citizen monitors a variety of public data sources using proprietary technology, allowing us to provide real-time alerts emergencies reported to 911.
Our team is made up of individuals with writing and public safety backgrounds, who are trained to make on-the-fly decisions about what goes into the App based on a set of complex criteria. We also conduct supplementary research that enriches our content compared to 911 reports.
If you witness or are a victim of a crime or see an emergency situation, please call 911 immediately.
To provide visual confirmation of developing incidents, raise community awareness, and help others stay safe, you can submit a live broadcast directly to Citizen. To do so, tap the “Go Live” button on your Citizen home screen to begin recording and narrating. Some examples of incidents you can report to Citizen include: traffic collisions, heightened police presence, flood conditions, lost pets, and other community FYIs.
Each user-submitted video is reviewed by a moderator before it appears in the app to ensure Citizen’s moderation guidelines and Terms of Service are not violated.
How do I view incidents reported in a specific area?
Citizen’s home screen shows you what’s happening around your immediate location. Above the map, you can search addresses, neighborhoods, and other cities to see what’s happening elsewhere.
We don’t want to clutter your map with too many incidents at once. As you pan cross, zoom out, and pinch the map, the incidents displayed will adjust to your map view. You may also notice the time range adjust to show you incidents reported in the past 2 hours or up to 7 days ago. If you are zoomed in, you’re likely to see older incidents. If you are zoomed out, you’re likely to see more recent incidents.
How can I follow places on Citizen?
If you would like to receive more notifications or to monitor activity near particular locations, you can use our Places feature to receive safety alerts no matter where you are.
To add an address, neighborhood, or city to your list of Places, go to your Citizen profile. Click on “Places” and you will be able to search for and add any location within our areas of service to your list of Places.
