CRIME IN OAKMORE

Below we report on a recent crime in our neighborhood and suggest an app for your cell phone that may help speed up the awareness by neighbors of a crime or public safety incident.

We will continue to communicate neighborhood concerns with our district representative and the Mayor and work with neighborhood groups to determine if there is a practical way that the whole neighborhood would agree to financially support several traffic cameras.

The recent neighborhood daylight armed robbery concerns us all. The property owner at 2006 Leimert reported that there was an armed robbery of contractors at about 9:30am on February 9, The property owner reported that,

“… the contractors were held at gun point and ordered to stay down in the ravine by two to three men.  Meanwhile, these men ransacked the workers’ opened trucks which were parked on the street level for tools/equipment they could steal…. All three men were in their 20s and wore face coverings. Two of the males had guns on them.  One of them pointed his gun at the workers while the others gathered the tools. The fourth man, the driver, stayed in the getaway car which was a white vehicle, Ford Fusion/ Hyundai/Honda Civic type of vehicle. They stole $1600 worth of tools/equipment today. …..We had to call 911 three times.  Only the last time at 2pm, an officer was actually dispatched to take the workers’ statement.”

“Our surveillance cameras were positioned in ways that would not have captured the perpetrators at all.  Thankfully our neighbor shared their camera footage which captured the entire incidents from the workers’ perspective and some movements of the perpetrators.
